Real - Reality

 

The distinction 'Real - Reality'

is quite common

in the intellectual world.

And there are different conceptions of this distinction.

 

Therefore we give here

description of how we understand it.

The Real

The Real

is that,

in which we are immersed

or what surrounds us

or what presents itself to us,

which we do not know

and to which we have not yet been able

to give any name.

 

We cannot even say that,

systematically, the Real exists.

There is the Real, but it does not always exist.

Its form of being is not always existence.

 

But the Real acts.

 

The body, for example,

which we do not know,

is a Real that acts.

It acts on us.

 

The unconscious,

which we do not know,

is a Real that acts on us.

 

The Real is immense ....

Reality

is made of what,

of the Real, 

by a kind of event, 

we take in it or understand in it.

Reality is therefore much less than the Real.

 

We take it in,

for example,

by spotting somewhere

a repetitiveness

that seems to hold something together.

 

This is done through the Imaginary.

 

To what we have detected

through the imaginary,

we can give a name.

 

By this name,

which is a recapitulation of a thought,

we make a contract with the Real.

Passing

this something

into Reality.

 

The name becomes

the symbol of what we have 'found'.

It is indeed a contract with the Real.

The word 'Symbol'

comes from the Greek ‘to symbolon ‘

which means 'an object of recognition’

broken into two parts,

each allowing messengers or carriers

to recognize each other by interlocking them.

In architecture,

if it is arkhè-tekton ,

we can consider that the Real

is what there is before the arkhè.

 

Brutally speaking,

before architecture,

that is, before there is a notion of ‘stance’,

that is, of a 'stand together',

there is only the Real.

 

We must be careful...

The notion of architecture

that is to say, of arkhè-tekton

i.e. of first authority

perhaps precedes architecture itself.

We could call it

language before language,

i.e. this faculty of distinction

in the Real

of what stands in it.
